Fitness Machine 008 - Eating Fat
Wednesday Oct 19, 2016
Wednesday Oct 19, 2016
Today on the Fitness Machine, Justin talks about eating fats and what is good fat versus bad fat.
- There's a central fatty acid that the body needs that we can't produce, only consume
- Eating healthy fats keeps body satisfied, balances hormones, and gives energy
- Don't eat processed food.
- It consists of eating only meat and veggies.
- Coconut Oil: A saturated fat that everyone needs for brain development.
- Sugar is sugar, though how the body takes it depends on what the source is
- Blueberries have other properties other than sugar to help keep you healthy, so good thing to have
- Really only need about 2 servings of fruit a day
- Sugar alcohol (or any sugar substitute) is generally bad for you and needs to be done in moderation
- Greek yogurt with almonds and blueberries.
- Stay away from large meals at lunch!
- The serotonin release that comes after eating causes a crash afterwards, thus having a large meal before bed is more beneficial to your health and your energy throughout your day.
- Not for everyone
- With the insulin that is released upon eating, avoiding that and the crash throughout the day can keep the energy going longer
- Getting all of your calories at night won't have you gaining weight as long as you're not obtaining too many calories
- Eating a grass-fed beef burger with avocado, ketchup, and mustard, a sweet potato or sweet potato fries on the side, and a side of salad or broccoli.
- The basics: A protein, veggie, and a potato, fries or fats (like avocado or nuts).

Fitness Machine 004 - Kettle Bells
Wednesday Sep 14, 2016
Wednesday Sep 14, 2016
Why Kettlebells are a good idea to have on your exercise regime.
- The Hinge: If done correctly, it should really be working your core and hips without harming your back, as many believe it could do. Good exercise for weight loss.
- The Carry: This can be done with many things, though a Kettlebell is more useful and easier for this exercise.
- Helps improve posture.
- Brings back muscle mass and bone density.
- Is good cardio if you can't do much of that anymore due to an injury.
- Men: 16 or 24 kilo Kettlebells is what you want to get to. If just starting out, then go for the 12 kilo to begin.
- Women: 8, 12, or 16 kilo Kettlebells are what you want to go for. 8 and 12 would be good for Presses and Rows. 12 may also be for Swings and Goblet Squats.
- Ages 55 - 70: Kettle Swings are good depending on mobility and joint stiffness. Can generally begin a Kettlebell Deadlift exercise after making sure body is ready for it, then can add weight to it based on how you're improving.
